1. StarChat is an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) network that
allows you to talk with other people on computers, WebTV and
MSN Tv systems, or gaming systems with chat features. You can
talk in a channel (or room) with several people, on chat
privately with a single person.

2. There are no fees or charges to use StarChat. Our
network is private, linked servers are donated by a company or
purchased by their administration who may also pay for
bandwidth consumption. All StarChat staff are volunteers,
donating their time and expertise to assist others. As there
is no cost to use StarChat, we consider everyone as a guest
and ask that anyone accessing the network behave as such.

3. There are no fees or charges to register a nickname on
StarChat. StarChat allows you to register five (5) nicknames
to your E-mail address. Those who register more than five with
multiple E-mail addresses will have their nicknames deleted
from the Services database.

4. There are no fees or charges to register a channel
(room) on StarChat. StarChat allows you to register five (5)
channels to your registered nickname. Those who register more
than five with multiple nicknames will have their channels
deleted from the Services database.

5. If you have an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client, connect
to StarChat by opening the client and typing /server
irc.starchat.net or click
here. If you don't have an IRC client, you can use the
java chat link on the left here.

6. If you are not on AOL, Compuserv, Prodigy, or Wal-Mart
Connect as your Internet Service Provider, connect to StarChat
and type:
/msg nickserv register [your E-mail address here] [create your
own password here]
Example: /msg nickserv register star@starchat.net twinkle
Use your real E-mail address as StarChat mails you an access
number to complete registration. Once you receive that number,
follow the directions in the E-mail to activate the nickname.
You need to activate your nickname in 24 hours after you
register, otherwise the registration will expire and you will
need to register again.

7. To register a channel, you must first register
your nickname. Once you have registered and activated your
nickname, join the channel you wish to register and type:
/msg chanserv register [#channel name]
Example: /msg chanserv register #starchat
There are no channel passwords on StarChat to be lost or
stolen. Channel registration is dependent on the registration
of the nickname of the channel's founder. Remember that if the
nickname of the channel's founder expires, so does the channel
registration.

8. If you use AOL, Compuserv, or Wal-Mart Connect as your
Internet Service Provider, then you must register
here to speak on StarChat.
