StarChat Acceptable Use Policy for WebTV & MSNTv
This is the condensed Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for WebTV & MSNTv users. This explains the rules of the StarChat network and behavior we expect from you. StarChat is a clean, quiet and conservative family network, and we have reasonable expectations for how people who use our free service should act. If you do not agree with the basic rules as listed below, then disconnect from StarChat and seek another place to chat.
Basic Rules:
Nicks - No offensive Nicks. If you think your Nick may be offensive, don't use it on StarChat. If you do use a Nick we find offensive, you are banned from the network.
Rooms - No Rooms are allowed for pornography trading, sexual solicitation, racism or harassment. There are plenty of other networks out there that allow pornography and sex, go there. If you open a Room on StarChat for pornography, sexual solicitation, racism or harassment, it is closed and you are banned.
Room Topics - Keep all Room topics "Rated-PG" as a courtesy for our other users. Rooms with obscene topics are locked as secret and removed from all Room lists.
Cursing - Keep your language clean. StarChat is a family-oriented network and no one there wants to see filth. Curse at the staff or other users and get banned from the network.
Harassment - Don't do it on StarChat. We expect everyone to behave as an adult while using the network, this means getting along with others. If you don't get along with someone, then put them on ignore. Do not harass by using obscenities, stalking or being mean-spirited to the staff or other users, it will get you banned.
Flooding - Repeated flood sending of text to a Room or other users is rude and annoying and it will get you banned from the network.
Ban Evasion - If you are banned from a Room, don't try sneaking back into the Room. If you are banned from the network, we don't want to see you back. We will submit documentation to the abuse departments and seek to have your account closed for violation of our AUP and your Internet Provider's AUP.
Bots - StarChat does not allow bots to "keep a room open". Basically, if you register your room, it is considered open. Bots that sit in channels just to make your room appear as if you are in there are not permitted. No one wants to go to a Room with a bot and be ignored. Rooms that have those types of bots are closed, and the bot is banned. If you want your room to appear open, try staying in there and being a gracious host.
Respect - Do not be disrespectful to others. Be nice to the staff and other users of StarChat and they will be nice to you. Disrespect will get you banned from the network.
Staff - The staff of StarChat are not paid, what they do is voluntary including spending their money to have a server on the network for you to chat for free. They are willing to help and expect you to be nice when you need assistance. They do not have to put up with bad attitudes, foul mouths, or those who can't get along with others.
Complaints - If you are harassed or abused, go to #starchat for help. The staff will not however become involved in petty fights, Room bans, or will ban another user just because you either don't like them or can't get along with them. Don't ask for help if you instigated a situation, you will be banned from the network.
#starchat - This is the help Room, meaning it is for help issues. Do not fly through the Room on your way to other Rooms or go in because you are bored. Repeated flybys or idling in the Room and you are banned from #starchat.
Ban - If you are caught in a ban you believe was set for someone else, you may email kline@starchat.net to inquire about the ban. The staff will investigate the ban and see about setting an exemption for you. If you are banned and you were at fault, don't bother emailing Kline to protest or complain.
Thank you for taking the time to read this AUP. We hope you enjoy chatting on StarChat and by following these simple rules, you will have no problems on the network.
